Organic All Purpose Compost, 40L

For sowing seeds and propagating plants this potting compost is not the best choice. It contains a large amount of nutrients that young plants cannot absorb yet. Instead, we recommend using our Plantura Organic Herb & Seedling Compost, which is lower in nutrients. When your plants have grown a little, they can be repotted using our all purpose soil. These two composts are the perfect combination for strong and healthy plants.

With a pH of 6.0 to 7.5, our all purpose soil is perfect for a variety of different plants - houseplants, vegetables, ornamental plants and more. Ericaceous plants such as hydrangeas or rhododendrons are the only exception: they require a soil with a lower pH level.

Water your plants whenever the top layer of soil feels dry. Our Organic All Purpose Compost is peat-free, which means that you have to water a little more often, but with less water.

Mould can occur when storing organic compost. This has nothing to do with the compost’s quality however, and this type of mould is not a health hazard. Mould spores can be found everywhere in the air. Under the right conditions (humidity and warmth), mould can form on any organic soil. During transportation and storage, there can be fluctuations in temperature, causing condensation in the bag. This promotes the germination of the mould spores.

If you find mould in your soil bag, we advise you to temporarily store it in a place that is drier and well ventilated to prevent the mould from spreading further. If you find the mould on the soil of a potted plant, remove the top layer (2 to 3cm) and dispose of it on your compost heap or in your garden waste bin.

Peat-free potting compost with a large amount of organic ingredients are sometimes used by fungus gnats (sciarid flies) to lay their eggs in. However, this does not mean that the quality of the soil is poor - after all, peat-free and organic composts are more sustainable and better for the environment than conventional alternatives.

Since our production follows very strict quality controls, we can rule out an infestation during manufacturing and storage of our compost. During transportation or in your home, fungus gnats can, however, find their way into the compost. If you notice an infestation, we recommend that you reduce watering and apply a thin layer of sand to the soil.

For the sake of the environment, our all purpose potting compost is 100% peat-free. In comparison with conventional composts containing peat, our organic soil produces up to 60% less CO₂ during production.
